WHAT ARE JUTTIS?
Juttis originated with the Mughals in India and were the shoe of choice for the royalty of the age. Juttis during this era of Indian history were bedecked with real jewels and it wouldn’t be uncommon to see a king or queen wearing juttis with emeralds, rubies and pearls, woven together with golden thread. These days you’re less likely to come across those kinds of juttis (imagine the price!) but modern-day juttis are no less beautiful.
Real juttis, like ours, are handcrafted by artisanal experts and are made with genuine leather. Juttis are defined by the ‘m’ shaped front and, in keeping with traditional crafting, juttis are distinct from any other shoe in that they are not shaped for left and right. The jutti, over time, takes the shape of your foot, fitting you like a glove. While soft to the touch at first fitting, the leather also only softens over time, making your juttis truly yours.
